What is Rotary

What would it take to change the world? Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.

Members of Rotary clubs, known as Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. As signified by the motto Service Above Self, Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.

To become a Rotarian, you must be invited to join a Rotary club by a member of that club.

Signature Projects for the Gainesville-Haymarket Rotary Club

Polio Plus, the most ambitious program in Rotary’s history, is the volunteer arm of the global partnership dedicated to eradicating polio. For more than 20 years, Rotary has led the private sector in the global effort to rid the world of this crippling disease. Today, PolioPlus and its role in the initiative is recognized worldwide as a model of public-private cooperation in pursuit of a humanitarian goal.

Locally the Gainesville-Haymarket Rotary Club is participating the campaign to End Polio Now, inspired by the extraordinary challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Children's Wellness Festival. The Gainesville/Haymarket, Manassas, and Bull Run Rotary Clubs have a joint effort in collaboration with the Manassas City Public School Health Advisory Board to sponsor an outreach health education program for needy children in the western Prince William County area to include Gainesville, Haymarket, Manassas, and Manassas Park.

The mission of the Children's Wellness Festival is to reach as many needy children in the identified area as possible, to educate these children and their parents in healthy lifestyles through proper diet and exercise; to make referrals to professional medical services where the need is identified; and provide information on resources within the community to accomplish and maintain a safe and healthy lifestyle.

For more details about the project which will be held on Saturday, September 26th at Metz Middle School in Manassas from 11:00 - 3:00 check out our website

Earth Day Each April the Rotary Club partners with the Town of Haymarket and many other community organizations to celebrate Earth and environmental awareness. This is a large project in which over 90% of our membership participates and gains a lot of public awareness for our club. The event includes recycling services, town clean-up effort, environmentally conscience booths for our local merchants, a children's treasure hunt through participating Haymarket businesses, bands and food. Attendees from Haymarket and the surrounding area enjoy celebrating Earth Day in Haymarket. Attendance has grown to nearly 2,000 in the three years we have been partners putting Rotary in the spotlight as a community leader.
