GH-Rotary Inducts New Members!

At our meeting last week, we inducted three brand new members to Rotary and also welcomed a seasoned Rotarian into our fold. Pictured here are President Dennis Fargo with Rob Bester, who transferred into our club and is originally with Rotary in South Africa, and our newest Rotarians along with their wives - Dickie and Scott Weible, Jonathan & Pam Escueta, and Loretta and Jim Moran. Welcome to our new members! We are so glad your spouses could join us to celebrate your induction to Rotary. The addition of these four members have moved our classification from a small club to a medium club.

President’s Message: Wanted: A Few Good Kin!

Want to play Reality Monopoly? Except with friends, not adversaries? In a game where everybody wins? And even so, where all of your education, experience and skill are key? Where all of your associates share similar values? Then, my friends, seek and serve in Rotary leadership! Our current Club Board of Directors includes thirteen positions, all looking for a few good kin. Our current membership is 42 – that’s about a one-in-three chance, every year, of service for anyone wishing the leadership experience. Here’s just a sample of what your Club Board of Directors accomplishes at each of its monthly meetings, taken from this month’s agenda:

  • Scheduled an end-of-year party with our associated Battlefield Interact Club, and voted $150 to fund it;
  • Voted to donate $250 to the Shriner’s Transportation Fund (provides patient transport to Shriner hospitals) as a “Thank you” to the Shriners for their support of Earth Day;
  • Voted to provide $75 to the Rotary Club of Dulles International Airport to help that Club defray the cost of hosting, in behalf of District 7610, the departure party for the Group Study Exchange (GSE) Team from India;
  • Approved monthly reports by all of the Club’s Directors, including a Treasurer’s Report stating our bank balance is the highest its ever been; and a Membership Report that elevates us from a small to a medium-sized Club;
  • Initiated planning for our next Rotary 101 event for new member
  • Completed an application for the District Governor’s citation
  • ;
  • Affirmed the decision to purchase a stand-up display for use by the Club in Rotary events;
  • Initiated planning to support one of our members in a Rotary Wal
  • Assembled a committee to draft our next Club request for a Rotary Simplified Grant;
  • Discussed planning for a reception for our associated Rotary Community Corps (RCC);
  • Discussed planning for our Club’s end-of-Rotary-year event.
  • See what I mean? And it’s easy as, well, saying “aye”: all you need to do is to indicate your desire and willingness to serve. Joining a planning committee is a good place to start. Enjoy your Rotary experience to the fullest. Rotary leadership is fun!

    BRMC Needs Volunteers.

    The Bull Run Mountain Conservancy is looking for volunteers to hike on the preserve on the weekends. Duties will include assisting hikers with questions or directions, reminding hikers of the guidelines of the preserve, and providing a general presence for the Conservancy. Volunteers will be outside for their entire shift and will wear an orange vest and volunteer name tag. All ages are welcome. If you are looking for volunteer hours, this is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while serving and representing Bull Run Mountains Conservancy.
