Zed Wondemu, owner of Zed's Bistro & Wine Bar

Today our speaker will be Zed Wondemu, who recently opened her second restaurant right here in Gainesville - Zed's Bistro & Wine Bar, which specializes in Ethiopian cuisine. Her original restaurant, Zed's Ethiopian Cuisine has been successfully operating in Georgetown for over 20 years now. The new restaurant in Gainesville features an open kitchen so you can watch the chef cook while enjoying a glass of wine. Zed's Bistro and Wine Bar is located at 6850 Piedmont Center Plaza in Gainesville - across the street from the post office (in the same shopping center as Ali's Quick Trip store!).

John Stirrup, Gainesville District Supervisor

John gave us an update of the state of all of the road improvement projects in the area, giving us the good news that most of the projects currently under construction are on or ahead of schedule. Old Carolina Road is slated to reopen around July 4, and the work on Route 15 should be complete by the end of the year.

He told us that due to the economic climate, some of the projects that were approved are on hold, including a library that was slated for Lightner Road. He explained that the funding was to come from bonds that we will not be securing next year in order to keep Prince William County's AAA rating. Because the income from real estate tax is their main source of revenue, securing bonds in 2010 would increase our debt ratio, which could put our AAA rating in jeapardy. So some of the improvements will have to wait a little longer until the market recovers.

It was great getting some insight into the improvements taking place all around us.
