President’s Message: We Don’t Agree….

Come to our meetings. You’ll hear joy and sorrow, fact and fiction, concurrence and skepticism, great expectations, even gloom and doom. And that’s just in Happy Talk.

Fact is, we debate and we argue. There’s division in our ranks, even a little rancor. We question each other’s motives. Control is an issue, both too much, too little, and who’s exercising it. Things don’t move fast enough. Timing is important and we all know it, but the important waypoints in timing lay both behind and ahead. Each waypoint is a stake in the ground that we have driven, and each must be considered equally. In the end, sometimes, we just don’t agree…even on the shape of major projects.

In other words, we are an American community. Things are as they should be, because it’s healthy for them to be this way. We are a free, functioning body of individuals who together make an unbeatable team. We provide the checks and balances, the feedback that keeps the rudder of our ship from getting hard over in one direction. We are not a stack of graham crackers. We are ginger snaps.

I relish the taste.

A call for Volunteers for Haymarket Day, Saturday, September 20th, 2008

We need people to man our Rotary Booth, people to help the town with parking from 8 - 11 and one or two more volunteers for the parade also from 8 - 11. So please, please volunteer to help us at Haymarket Day if at all possible. Let Nicole Negvesky know if you can man the booth and let Marilyn Karp know about helping the town. Thanks for all that you do.

TODAY'S PROGRAM

Doug Obetz, Classification Talk

This week we will get the chance to know one of our newest club members, Dr. Doug Obetz a little better as he gives his classification talk to the membership.

LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM

Russell Tuck, Rotary Foundation 101 Briefing

Russ gave us a good overview of the Rotary Foundation and the work that is done internationally with the money that is collected through the Rotary Foundation. Our goal is to have every Rotarian contibute to the Rotary Foundation every year. We will be monitoring our progress as a club and reporting on that progress in the weekly blog via our Rotary Giving Thermometer. As you can see this week, Russ inspired several members to contribute to the Rotary Foundation after his presentation.

Excellence is the result of:
  • caring more than others think wise
  • risking more than others think is safe
  • dreaming more than others think is practical
  • and expecting more than others think is possible
