President’s Message: Membership and Extension Month
August is Membership and Extension Month. What a great time to celebrate our unique identity as a Club and seek to expand our diversity in all ways. Look at us, we are nothing less than a bouquet of humanity! How many Clubs can say this? We are male and female in gender; black, mocha and white of race; octogenarian and thirty-something of age; Muslim, Jewish, Protestant and Catholic in faith. We salute at least three different flags. We are Asian, European, and North American in ancestry. But lucky us, we are all American in experience. We ARE what Rotary was meant to be.

In this regard, I have been asked as your President to support and encourage non-sectarian prayer in our meetings, that the member who leads us thereby speaks to Our Lord in direct representation of as many of us as possible. This I do, and do gladly because of the importance of prayer in bonding both our earthly and celestial journeys together. More than that, I will continue asking all members to lead prayer at meetings, so that we can celebrate not a common offering, but the music of our diversity. And… to give Robin a break. We are a beautiful garden. Let us tend to it. Let us have a care for diversity as we seek to expand our number this season.

TODAY'S PROGRAM

Kris Johnson, Prince William/Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce

Kris Johnson is the marketing and sales director for the Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce. She has been with the Chamber for 8 years in November. Kris started her career at the Chamber as the PR/Events Director where she was responsible for all the Chamber's events, publications and even their Cable TV show on Comcast. She moved over to membership about 4 years ago. Before the Chamber, Kris was a stay at home mom raising 3 boys. In addition to raising children, she competed in and finished a marathon and started her own Personal Training Business. Prior to children, Kris held various sales and marketing positions with companies in Ohio. Kris resides in Manassas with her husband and children. Kris will talk about how businesses can make the most of their Chamber investment.

LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM

Ali Syed, Classification Talk

Ali gave us a very interesting overview of his career in the Pakistan Navy and some of the logistic projects he led during his time of service. He talked about his decision to relocate to the United States to give his children an education and some of the initial struggles that he had when first arriving and seeking employment. All of the skills he learned while managing logistics in the Pakistan Navy have come in handy during other applications along his career path. He has since started his own business, a convenience store and market in Gainesville specializing in Pakistani products.
