President's Message: Fireside Chat
Rotary has a traditional forum for passing information to new members. It’s called a Fireside Chat. The Fireside Chat is intended to provide an informal, quiet and more intimate atmosphere than a typical meeting, in which I can ask everything I wanted to know about Rotary but was afraid to ask. It takes its name from the fact of being held in a member’s home, usually in the early evening. If desired, it can be based on a requested agenda, although this begins to look more like a Club Assembly – the traditional, structured way of passing information to the Club. Your G-H Rotary Board will schedule a Fireside Chat in August or September, and perhaps others later this Rotary year. If you would like the opportunity to host a Fireside Chat for fellowship and learning, please approach any Board member, and we will plan from there – the host, of course, gets to say when.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame!
We're organizing a baseball outing on August 2nd as one of our fellowship events. We've asked the Manassas and Bull Run Clubs to join us. We are partnering with these clubs on our Children's Wellness Festival project. We are also inviting fellows from the International Counterterrorism Fellows Program to join us.

Here is the flyer that describes the event . .

Please note in order to have the picnic we need a minimum of 20 people to sign up. Click here to view and print out a signup form. .

TODAY'S PROGRAM

CLUB ASSEMBLY

The new board members will address the general membership on their roles in the organization and outline the club's goals for the coming year.

We will also be inducting Nicole Negvesky into our club at this week's meeting. Welcome Nicole!

LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM

Bette Franken, ICTF Program Manager, National Defense University, Fort McNair, DC

Bette gave a very interesting presentation on the International Counterterrorism Fellows Program that she manages at National Defense University. She outlined an opportunity for people to become involved in NDU's CTF Sponsor Program, where American families in the area can "sponsor" one of the Fellows and their family by befriending them while they are living in the area and helping them become aquainted with the American Family Life. If you are interested in learning more about this program, please call 202-685-1705 or email ISMO@ndu.edu. Our club has extended an invitation to the incoming Fellows and their families to join us at our baseball outing on August 2.
